Since 1994 the Black Coral Divers (BCD) has been an integral part of the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) scuba diving community. Over the years, BCD has pursued its goal of training and promoting scuba diving to the DFW community by sponsoring introduction to scuba diving presentations, Discover Scuba classes, Open Water Scuba Courses and Emergency First Response Courses to various local schools, community centers and to individuals.

BCD is a charter member of the National Association of Black Scuba Divers (NABS) and is an enthusiastic supporter of the NABS's mandates and initiatives to include but not limited to planning and participation at the annual NABS Summit in November, member of the NABS Foundation, NABS Aqua Corp, the NABS Summit Planning Committee, NABS Awards Committee, annual Presidents meeting and ongoing interaction with other NABS affiliate clubs located throughout the United States. BCD is a two time recipient of the prestigious "NABS Club of the Year Award".

BCD is committed and keenly aware of the importance of encouraging the recognition of safe scuba diving and awareness of the commitment to conserve out coastal and marine environments. Several of the BCD members volunteer annually in the Diving with a Purpose Program (DWP), NOAA Nautical Archeological Survey Training Program (NAS), NABS Youth Educational Summit (NABSYES), PADI Project Aware International Clean-Up, and Aquarena Springs Diving for Science Project.

The annual NABSYES project brings together youth, ranging from ages 10-18 years of age, across the country who share a common interest in aquatics and marine science. This program challenge our youth with opportunities to learn and grow in an environment that promotes camaraderie, a sense of pride and enjoyment. BCD supported this activity by sponsoring six youths from Texas to attend this one week summit in Savannah, Georgia in June 2009. BCD will initiate its first Scuba Diving Certification Scholarship in 2010. This scholarship will be open to youths in the DFW community.
